Who could resist that sweet little face??? I know that I couldn't and neither could Ben. I immediately called Paula from Sea Dog Rescue to tell her we would gladly foster Cassidy. On June 10, 2013, Paula and I headed to Washington, NC, to pull Cassidy from the shelter.
When we walked back to meet Cassidy, dogs were greeting us enthusiastically. Some were jumping on the doors to their kennels while others were barking. There wasn't a tail in the house that wasn't wagging. Then we came to Cassidy's kennel where she was lying quietly on her bed. She was very timid.
I couldn't help but think how easily she could have been overlooked by potential adopters just because she was scared and not jumping on her kennel door in excitement. It was so sad. Even the nicest shelters can be such scary places for dogs. I was so happy that she was leaving with us.
After Paula officially rescued Cassidy, we took her over to the local vet to be spayed. Poor Cassidy was so terrified! She absolutely did not want to walk on a leash, so I had to carry her. She clung to my shoulders so tightly. I could feel her little paws digging into my skin. I didn't mind. I was just so happy to have saved this sweet little soul!

No feeling compares to saving a life! |
Cassidy's eyes say it all in this photo. She was so nervous. She curled up in my lap the second we sat down in the vet's office. I didn't want to leave her. I loved her and soothed her while we were waiting at the vet's office. I couldn't wait until her two days at the vet were up and she could come home with me. I just wanted her to be the happy little girl I knew she could be.
Now that Cassidy was safely in the vet's office, her kennel was free to save another dog. One more life saved. Now that's a good day in my book.

What do you think of a dog's demeanor in the shelter? Do you think timid Cassidy would have been overlooked if Sea Dog Rescue didn't take her?
What a cutie !! Cassidy looks awesome. I don't think she has been overlooked. the proof ? You fostered her. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhen you foster a dog from a shelter, you don't necessarily get the pup you wanted, but you get the friend you need (according to your character). Some people prefer calm dog, someone else will prefer a silly goofy pooch. :P
I hope you are having an awesome Friday and wish you will have a beautiful Week end.
Haha! Very true! She certainly didn't get overlooked by us at Sea Dog Rescue. You are very right about people getting what they need from pups. They are great friends!
DeleteHappy Friday to you as well! Have a great weekend, too!
So happy you rescued her!! I think you are going to make her into a great little one, full of happiness and ready to find her new furever home!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Cassidy was such a sweet girl, and that's why she wasn't with us very long. I am posting her adoption tail next week :)
DeleteHi Y'all,
ReplyDeleteSome people wouldn't want, know how, have time to deal with a very shy dog. So glad she was fostered by y'all. She'll have a chance to find herself and get adjusted to the world.
Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Thank you, Hawk!!! I am also glad we were able to foster her. It is amazing how dogs can flourish once they leave the shelter! She certainly was a sweetie. I am posting her happy tails post next week. :)
DeleteHave a great day!
I'm so glad you will be joining the Tuesday's Tails Blog Hop! I hope it makes a difference for some of the shelter animals that are featured. It would be awesome if it made a difference for all of them but I know that is impossible! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteI think that any exposure at all will help. You are doing a great thing! I am looking forward to joining!
DeleteHave a great day!
Yay! Thank you so much for fostering her! She looks like a big ol' sweetieface! It's no wonder you couldn't walk away after seeing her.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that timid, shy dogs are often overlooked at shelters. Most people looking for a new dog want one that looks happy, or at least friendly and outgoing... but the rest of us, the "my heart beats dog" type people, we zero right in on those who need us most. And you zeroed right in on her.
I'm both sorry and not sorry that your fostering break was short. I'm sure you know what I mean by that :).
Thank you again for being a foster angel!
Thank you! I LOVE fostering and helping out. You are soooo right when you say people like us are attracted to the pups that need us the most. That is why I adopted my senior hound. I knew she needed me the most! (Plus I super fell in love with her!)
DeleteI very much know what you mean about my fostering break! I am also glad it was short so we could save this sweet girl!
Have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by :)
YESH, Laura and Cassidy! Certainly, she was overlooked in the shelter but you were looking for a dog who needed you - which she did and now has a home with home experience to boot. Fostering, as you know, helps more than room for one more; it helps tell the adopter more about the dog in a home environment. THANK YOU.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Roberta! You are very right! Fostering is a wonderful thing. I love it! You are welcome :)
DeleteI can't wait to post about my current foster. He is adorable, too!
Have a great day!
Cassidy is beautiful! My heart goes out to this little girl. By looking at the pics, and the video I can totally see, and feel how insecure she is. Laura it is so great you are fostering her! Good job! hugs
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Franchesca!!! She certainly was a sweetheart!!! :)
DeleteHugs to you!
