Bake Sale for the SPCA!

Earlier this month, our local police busted a local dog fighting ring.  They found 80 dogs!!!  Here is the awful story if you would like to read it.

Our local SPCA took in these animals at a makeshift shelter.  Needless to say, they needed help!  The community really pulled together and helped out.  People started volunteering and donating goods and money.

I wanted to help as well.  I called my boss and asked her if I could set up a donation bin at work.  She was all for it!  She called me back and suggested we also hold a bake sale to raise funds.  I thought it was a great idea!

We made a flyer and hung up a sign.  Our crew volunteered to help make some treats.  I would like to say a big thank you to Jessica, Angela, Rick, and Christina for helping out by baking! Christina and her daughters went the extra mile and decorated some AMAZING cakes and cupcakes!  They looked absolutely awesome!

Cooper was my sidekick today.  He was a great boy.  He sat by me, greeted the customers, and gave lots of kisses.  He was the perfect gentleman!

We ended up raising about $150 today.  One man didn't even take any treats as he handed me twenty-five dollars.  He simply said that he was a proud pit bull owner.  I thought that was awesome!  Another little girl gave her allowance of four dollars.  That about made me cry!  I love when good people do great things!  I am not sure if $150 is normal for bake sales, but I am proud of it!  I think every bit will go to good use.

We also collected donations over the past week.  My boss, Jessica, has some amazing in-laws!  They rounded up TONS of donations for the shelter.  These photos speak volumes about how much the community loves animals.  I cannot wait to drop off these goodies on Monday!

Thank you to everyone that helped!  It was a great day!  If you would like to help or make a donation, please visit our local SPCA's website.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Rescue, Angela!

I am so very proud and excited to announce that one of my good friends has joined the fabulous world of rescue!  Angela and her husband, Shelby, recently became foster parents for Sea Dog Rescue!

Angela & Bandit
I have only known Angela for a short time, but we bonded quickly over our love for dogs.  She is a wonderful person with a passion for animals.  She and her husband have two dogs and one cat.  Charlie is a chocolate labrador, Bandit is a pit bull, and Daisy is a sweet kitty they adopted.  All of her furkids are well loved and absolutely adored.

Daisy
I positively adore her boys.  Charlie is sure to lick inside your ear with his many kisses, and Bandit is sure to snuggle up on you and sneak a few kisses of his own.  The boys smile as soon as they see you.  They truly love people and want nothing more than to make you happy.  Don't you just love dogs?  I know I do!

Charlie
Angela got her very first foster pup last Saturday.  She and Shelby are taking care of Rylee, a sweet shepherd mix that is only a few months old.  They have quickly fallen in love with her!  She is a such a precious girl.  She has taken quite a liking to her big brothers, especially Bandit!

Rylee & Bandit
Rylee is in great hands!  I know she will get the best care and lots of love while she is waiting on her forever home!

Congratulations, Angela!  I am so proud of you, Foster Sister!

Caption Contest with a Cause

Last night, Ben walked into the kitchen to find quite a surprise!

Our little girl took it upon herself to investigate our kitchen counter last night.  Luckily, Ben's phone was right next to her on the counter so we could snap a quick photo! (Sorry about the ghost eyes!  It was a spur of the moment photo!)  Of course we made her get down right away, but it was too funny bad not to share!

Now for the fun part!  I would like to have a little contest in honor of my sweet, yet very bad, June.  As she was a shelter dog herself, I thought it would be quite fitting.

The contest?  Come up with a funny, unique, or just plain awesome caption for the photo of June on the counter.  Post your caption in the comment section of the blog or on the wall of my Facebook page

At the end of the contest, I will post the five best captions to be voted on for a winner.  The winner can choose a rescue or shelter of their choice to receive a $25.00 donation in honor of Miss June bug.  I know it isn't much, but it is around the size of my usual monthly donation.  It can buy a bag of food or a few collars.  A little can help change the life for a pup in need!  Also, your favorite rescue will get a shout out and maybe some new fans!

I like to donate a little every month or so to different local dog rescues, charities, or to a particular dog in need of special care.  I love helping others, even if it is only a small amount here or there.  Just a little can go a long way for pups in need!

Ready, set, go!  The contest will go now through February 17th at midnight.  Then we will post the top five and vote on the winner!

Thanks for playing!

Time to Retire the Couch

Over the weekend, Ben and I made the decision that it was time to retire our couch.  It had been a good couch that kept years of puppies comfortable.  Those sweet puppies, however, took their toll on our couch.

I awoke to the sound of frolicking puppies on Saturday.  Ben was already up and keeping an eye on things.  He even came in and put away my shoes, saying "Mommy is going to be happy when she gets up."  I thought he was cleaning already.  Yay!  (I must have missed his sarcastic tone.)

Well....I walked out of the bedroom to complete disarray.  June had been continually reopening the wounds made by our first foster.  There was stuffing all over the floor and the cushions were thrown everywhere.  Someone was having fun!!!

Luckily, I just got a pup-mobile after a recent car incident, so we had a means to transport our couch to the local dump.  I did, however, save the cushions as they would make excellent doggie beds!

It was just another day in the life of a doggie family!  I wouldn't trade it for anything!
