Four Paws with a Cause: The NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association) Walk

Cooper & June at the 2nd Annual NEDA Walk

We all know that dogs and advocating on their behalf are very near and dear to my heart.  NEDA, the National Eating Disorder Association, is also a cause that I support very strongly.  In my post, Seven for Sophie, I explained why.  Here is an excerpt from that post:

"Since most of my volunteering is with dogs, I decided to go outside of my box.  I tried to think of something else near and dear to my heart that could help bring a smile to others today.  I immediately knew what I wanted to do.  My random acts of kindness were inspired by my sister in law, Katie.  She was truly a kind person that did so much for others.  Back when Ben & I were just dating, she would call me just to chat when Ben was out at sea because she knew I was all alone in a strange place.  She was a wonderful person that I wish I could have gotten to know much better.  I know we would have been close.

Katie passed away in 2010.  She lost her battle with an eating disorder.  She was only 27.  My mother-in-law, Paula, has been truly inspirational since Katie passed away.  She took her grief and used her experience to help others.  Paula became very involved with NEDA, the National Eating Disorder Association.  She has organized two walks to raise awareness and thousands of dollars to benefit NEDA.  She is an amazing woman, and I am proud to call her family."

It is that time of year again.  It is time for the 3rd Annual NEDA Walk.  This year it is expanding to include our entire tri-state area of Greater Cincinnati, OH.  My husband & I have formed a team again this year, and we are asking for your help.

If you are unable to donate monetarily or join my team, please share my post with your friends and family to help raise awareness and donations.  Eating disorders are very real and very serious.  Remember to love yourself and Be-YOU-tiful!

You are amazing!  Never forget that :)

Thank you and I hope you will be joining my team!

  1. I'm so sorry about your sister in law Katie. I can't imagine the pain your family went through. Unfortunatly society is brainwashed by images of skinny high fashion models where we are all taught that being beautiful is all about being skinny when it is not. Being beautiful is about being ourselfves, and our weight has nothing to do with it. My heart goes out to your family, and I believe it is so awesome that you take part of this cause. <3

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Francesca. You are so very right! Our society definitely has it wrong. Beauty is measured by so many things, like being kind and thoughtful, not being skinny. I agree with you completely! Thank you for your support :)

  3. You have an amazing talent at writing! Topaz and Pete have been practicing walking together - Pete still thinks he is the "big" dog - and Topaz is fine with that.

I love that Pete is still in charge! And how sweet of Topaz to respect her elder. I can't wait to see them!
